Guyana, St Vincent in agri student exchange

A bilateral agreement between the governments of St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) and Guyana has paved the way for five SVG students to commence several agricultural related programmes at the Guyana School of Agriculture, while a team from Guyana is attached to the Ministry of Agriculture on that island.

The Government of Guyana will pay for tuition and board, inclusive of meals for the SVG students, a release from the Ministry of Agriculture said. The students will be pursuing diplomas in Animal Science, Agriculture Science and Agro-processing.

As part of the agreement, Guyana will also have a team of agricultural professionals on short-term attachment with the Ministry of Agriculture in SVG, the release said.

The students, accompanied by SVG Minister of Agriculture Sabato Caesar met Minister of Agriculture, Dr Leslie Ramsammy, who encouraged them to study diligently. He committed to ensuring that they are well catered for during their stay in Guyana.

He said, “I expect you to be well rounded when you leave Guyana. I hope that during your stay here, you will make the best of it… this collaboration between the two governments is to further promote capacity building.”

The SVG students, three females and two males, expressed their gratitude for being granted the scholarships, the release added.
