According to police reports, Bhagwandeen, who was riding a motorcycle at the time was proceeding north on the western carriageway sometime between 12.30 pm and 1 pm. The car, a Toyota Probox bearing the licence plate number PMM 7326, was travelling in the same direction.

Eyewitnesses said the motorcycle was in front of the car but Bhagwandeen changed directions and ended up in the path of the car. The vehicle swerved north to avoid a collision but in doing so the front wheel of the vehicle collided with the back wheel of the motorcycle and Bhagwandeen was sent hurtling onto the parapet. The car, emblazoned with “His Love” across the front windscreen and which also has a learner’s sticker, flipped on its side and landed across a small drain in front of a resident’s home.

The driver, a young man who lives at Charity, was taken into police custody, while Bhagwandeen was taken to the Suddie Public Hospital in a critical condition. At around 5.30 pm, he succumbed to his injuries.
