Rehab of Linden/ Lethem road set for $176m

HPS and Cabinet Secretary Dr Roger Luncheon yesterday announced that Cabinet has offered no objections to four contracts including one valued over $176M for the rehabilitation of the Linden/Lethem road.

At his post-Cabinet press briefing, Dr Luncheon said a tender was green-lighted for the repair and maintenance of the road in three lots valued $40.0M, $50.3M and $86.1M respectively. This sum amounts to $176.5M, a Government Infor-mation Agency (GINA) report said.

Another tender valued $33.4M was also okayed for road rehabilitation in Region One. The works are to be conducted in two lots, to the value of $15.5M and $17.9M respectively.

In the health sector, no objections were offered for a tender valued $381.4M for the procurement of drugs and medical supplies for the health ministry. These contracts have evoked continuing controversy because of their reliance on prequalification and a limited pool of bidders. A $124.8M tender was also given the go ahead for the supply and delivery of laboratory reagents and supplies, in the same sector.
