A policeman is now on $150,000 bail after being charged with stealing a laptop from a colleague.

Cleon Jack, of Linden, pleaded not guilty when he appeared on Friday at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on a charge that he stole the laptop, valued at $140,000, from Samuel Amsterdam, sometime during June 2013.

According to the police’s case, Amsterdam, a police officer attached to the Tactical Services Unit (TSU), secured his cupboard at the TSU in June. Sometime after, he checked the cupboard only to find the laptop missing.

Subsequently an investigation was launched and Jack admitted to stealing the laptop. He was then arrested.

Bail was set at $150,000 by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry after Prosecutor Bharat Mangru made no objections save for requesting bail be in a substantial amount. The case was adjourned until January 31.
