Woman arrested after voicing suspicions about father molesting girl, 13

A West Berbice woman who spoke out against her 69-year-old father over suspicions that he was sexually molesting a 13-year-old girl was arrested after he made false allegations against her.

The woman claimed that the sergeant at the station refused to listen to her report about the alleged molestation and instead accused her of “blocking [her father’s] moves…” He also told her to “move out of the man’s house.”

Before that she and her family were at a church service when they got a message that police carrying “big guns” were at her house looking for her. The allegation against her was that she had damaged her father’s picket fence and kitchen garden.

The worse part, she said, was that she was treated like a criminal and felt humiliated after she was detained at the station and placed to sit on a filthy bench.

After she was released a few hours later, she decided to report the matter to the Child Care & Protection Agency (CCPA) in the region.

Investigations by the CCPA proved that the girl was indeed being molested and that it had started “since she was at primary school.”

The matter against the man’s daughter was set for Thursday and arrangements were being made to have him arrested over the alleged molestation, but he never showed up.

He has since gone into hiding. The woman, after waiting for quite a while at the court was told that the case jacket for her matter was not available, hence no charge was read to her.

Reports are that the man, a pensioner is involved in a relationship with the girl’s grandmother who lives a few villages away.

He had lived with the woman for a while and it was during that time that he started the violating the girl.

The man had returned to live at the bottom flat apartment of his home; he shared the top flat with his daughter.

He continued the relationship with the woman who would send food for him with the child.

His daughter said the girl would also help the man with household chores and her suspicions were only aroused when the child started showing her attitude.
