Construction worker threatened to whip wife’s ex-court hears

A construction worker was yesterday placed on $5,000 bail after he allegedly threatened to whip his wife’s former partner, with whom she shares a child.

It is alleged that on December 2, at North Sophia, Roger Alexander, 45, of 5N North Sophia, used abusive language to Paul John. It was also alleged that on the same day, he threatened John.

Alexander pleaded not guilty to both charges when they were read against him by Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

Prosecutor Deniro Jones said that Alexander is presently married to John’s former common-law partner. He added that on December 2, John took the child he shares with Alexander’s wife to the couple’s home and Alexander threatened to whip him with a wire rope and used indecent language while making the threat.

“I never told this man anything. When he came I was going to work and I didn’t do or say anything to him,” Alexander, however, said, when given a chance to address the court.

Bail was set at $2,500 for each charge and Alexander was placed on a bond to keep the peace until completion of the trial.

The matter returns to court 10 on December 11.
