Joshua House children get certificates for ‘This is my Mexico’ drawing competition

Six children of Joshua House who participated in the worldwide “This is my Mexico” Children’s Drawing Competition were yesterday presented with their certificates of participation.

According to a press release from the Mexican Embassy, the competition provides children ages 7 to 11 the opportunity to submit drawings portraying their knowledge and sentiments about Mexico’s history and culture.

The competition, which had previously been only for children of Mexican parentage around the world, was opened to worldwide participation about three years ago.

After the presentation of certificates yesterday, Ambassador of Mexico to Guyana Francisco Olguin said that the competition has enabled the children to learn about new cultures and has opened their minds to the possibility of one day visiting foreign lands.

Before the submission of drawings, the children were taken to the Mexican Embassy to view photos, books and other cultural memorabilia of Mexico. They were then required to portray, to the best of their abilities, their interpretations of Mexican culture.

Two schools, one private and one public, had also been chosen with Joshua House to participate in the competition.
