Owner of collapsed BV house needs help to rebuild

As she tries putting the pieces back together, the 71-year-old Beterverwag-ting resident whose house was destroyed as a result of Saturday morning’s high winds and thunderstorms is appealing for public assistance to aid in her rebuilding.

“Any help I will accept and will be appreciated …at this age I am so used to living alone and I prefer not to stay at family because of my age,” Doris Nero told Stabroek News yesterday.

Nero’s home collapsed during gusty winds and heavy rainfall around 8:30 on Saturday. She was at the time preparing meals in her kitchen.

“I just going from the kitchen into the living room when I fall ‘bruddups’ and remember my neighbour over there coming to help up to run out the house…I thank God for life because it could have been worse”, she said.

Her neighbours and other public-spirited citizens managed to save some of her household furniture.

None of the four occupants of the building suffered serious injuries.

Yesterday,  Nero and some members of her family were at the location sifting through the wreckage. She lamented that all her appliances were destroyed as when the house disintegrated everything was drenched by the rain. “This was just a disaster, other houses were slightly affected in the street but I got the worst”, Nero said.

“Right now I am trying to see what could use back, what good and what’s not”, she added.

She said that she had made preparations to begin her Christmas decorating this week but instead will now be spending the holidays with her brother at Paradise.

She is however hoping that persons hearing of her plight will offer whatever assistance so she can soon begin rebuilding.

While Nero’s house was ruined other persons in the area suffered minor losses.
