Buxton man accused of forging sales agreement

A Buxton resident was yesterday granted $150,000 bail after he was charged with forging an agreement of sale.

Ellsworth Ganeshdin, of Lot 89 Middle Walk Road, Buxton, East Coast Demerara, pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read by Magistrate Ann McLennan.

It was alleged at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts that between November 1, 2010 and October 31, 2011, Ganeshdin, with intent to defraud, forged an agreement of sale, purporting to show that same was signed by Kelford De Jonge.

Prosecutor Deniro Jones objected to bail, citing the nature and gravity of the charge. He added that Ganeshdin forged the agreement and presented it to the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA). He said that the offence was committed in 2010 but was only reported in 2013. Jones further stated that De Jonge is currently out of the country.

Attorney Euclin Gomes said that his client has three children, all of whom are gold miners. He added that Ganeshdin has no antecedents and that the matter has been brought to the police’s attention since 2011 and it’s now the end of 2013. He further stated that Ganeshdin has been co-operating with the police.

Bail was granted in the sum of $150,000 and the matter returns to Court One on January 6.
