Special constable found dead at NIS office

A  Special Constabulary rank of the Guyana Police Force was found dead at the rear of the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) complex at Camp and Bent streets early yesterday morning.

Desiree Ann Williams, who was a guard at the facility, was found at about 6am.

Up to press time last night, no one was able to say what caused the woman’s death.

Williams’ daughter, who asked not to be named, said that her mother was okay when she left for work on Tuesday evening.

However, Williams had been complaining about pains in her chest last week. The complaints resulted in Williams visiting a city hospital in the company of her elderly mother, but examinations deemed her normal although she was given medication. “She was on sick leave up to Sunday,” her daughter said said.

The woman, who initially searched the Georgetown Public Hospital for her mother after being alerted to her having been taken there, eventually travelled to the NIS compound, where she saw her mother’s lifeless body lying on the ground at the rear covered in a sheet.
