Bandits grab $17m from Kirpalani clerk

A Shamdas Kirpalani sales clerk who was about to deposit a carton box filled with a reported $17m at the Bank of Baroda was robbed by two men on Avenue of the Republic yesterday.

One of the owners of Shamdas Kirpalani confirmed that one of its staff had been robbed.

A security guard employed at a store close to where the robbery took place  said that she was standing inside the store when she heard a commotion. “I look outside and I see the men stick he up with the gun and take away the box he had and escape in a vehicle”, she said, noting that the area the bank was located was always busy.

It was only on Thursday that  the Ministry of Public Works’ $7.7M payroll was stolen after an ambush.
