The Government of Guyana is partnering with the South Florida National Parks Trust to strengthen the functioning of the Protected Areas Commis-sion, and the National Protected Areas Trust Fund.

A release from the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment yesterday said that the South Florida National Parks Trust has supported National Parks in South Florida since 2002, and has broad experience in environmental education and resource protection among other areas.

The release said that the partnership was brokered in a meeting with the Minister of Natural Resources and the Environment,

At the meeting, which was held in the United States yesterday, Persaud stated that “Guyana is currently revising its framework policies for natural resources development, and the establishment of a national system of protected areas in Guyana is timely to enhance environmental management.”

Persaud stated, according to the release, that the Protected Areas Commission will require technical and management capacity to develop strategic and management plans. As such, Persaud said that the ministry sought the expertise of the US Parks Services.
