A Leguan woman was slashed to death yesterday morning by her husband who was later found hanging on the foreshore.

Sunita Lall also known as Dolly, 24, of  Endeavour, Leguan , Essequibo River, bled to death from a slit throat yesterday, around 3 am.  Family members were told that her reputed husband, Yugindra Jagdai, 30, had murdered her. He was later found hanging on the Endeavour Foreshore. The man, a fisherman, had been locked up before for assaulting Lall.

Jagdai, also known as Vicky,  was said to have been  under the influence of alcohol at the time.  He was discovered hanging from a tree at about 15:30hrs, according to a press release issued by the Guyana Police Force.

She further stated that it was only after two of the couple’s three children screamed that neighbours went to the home and discovered Lall lying motionless. The neighbours then alerted relatives who ran to the house.

Lall’s grandmother said she was told that Jagdai and his wife had an argument over a dress she bought to attend her children’s school party. At around 3am, while Lall was making a feed for their one-year-old son, Jagdai started an argument. Sometime during the argument, Jagdai took a rolling pin and hit Lall in the head.  After she fell to the floor, he is reported to have grabbed a knife from the kitchen and slit her throat. At the time her body was discovered, Lall was lying in a pool of blood on the bed holding the feeding bottle in her right hand and the rolling pin on her stomach.

Lall’s mother, Nandanie Nandalall, who was overwhelmed with grief, told Stabroek News that Jagdai was abusive to her daughter from the inception of the eight-year relationship they shared. She said it was so bad that a month ago she had Jagdai locked up for battering Lall. She said she subsequently had him released after he repented and promised to change. Nandalall called for justice for her daughter’s death and said that she will take care of the now orphaned three children of Lall and Jagdai.

Relatives told this newspaper that the police arrived on the scene around 4:20am, approximately 20 minutes after family members discovered the body. The body was then transported to the Leguan Cottage Hospital where Lall was pronounced dead on arrival. A post-mortem examination will be performed later this week, according to Lall’s family.

The dead couple leaves to mourn two daughters, ages five and six, and a son who is one year old.

Lall’s death came a day after a Tuschen woman, Sookdai Basdeo was stabbed to death allegedly by her former husband.
