Region Five probation department holds children’s party

In spreading the goodwill of the Christmas season, the Region Five Probation and Social Services department feted 160 children.

The children had fun dancing with Santa and they were presented with gifts and also got a bag of goodies to take home. Senior probation officer, Dolettte Nicholson told this newspaper that the children were drawn from depressed communities. She expressed gratitude to the business community for sponsoring the party, which was held at Fort Wellington, West Coast Berbice and for “co-operating in making our effort a success.” Nicholson said the department hopes to attract more children next year and is also planning to host a party for the children in the Mahaicony sub-district as well.

Meanwhile, the department in collaboration with the Regional Democratic Council held a lunch for 160 senior citizens. They served lunch and hampers with food items, toiletries and body care products. The oldest guest at the event was 96-years-old of No 22 Bel Air. Meanwhile, the Progressive Youth Organization group of Cotton Tree also treated the senior citizens to a scrumptious lunch on Sunday. The group also presented them with holiday gifts.
