Deborah Backer hospitalized

A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) MP Deborah Backer has taken ill and has been hospitalised, Opposition Leader David Granger says.

Granger made the disclosure yesterday afternoon during the coalition’s weekly press conference after questions on Backer’s health were posed.

Backer, who serves as the Deputy House Speaker, was noticeably absent from the last sitting of the National Assembly, causing fellow coalition member Keith Scott to act as speaker when House Speaker Raphael Trotman took a short break.

Though Granger would not discuss the details of Backer’s illness, he did say that she is stable, and that he does not foresee her illness interrupting the coalition’s work in the Assembly.
