At about 0730h. today police say that Tom Mentis, 37 years, of Republic Avenue, Linden, was driving a motor pick-up over the Mackenzie/Wismar Bridge when he apparently lost control of the vehicle which crashed through the railing and plunged into the Demerara River.
Mentis is believed to have drowned and efforts are being made to recover the body.
No further information is available at this time, police say.
