Turtle Creek murder accused remanded

A 22-year-old accused of murdering another man during the course of a robbery yesterday appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

Marlon Freeman was remanded by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry for the December 22 murder of Timothy Adams at Turtle Creek, Five Star Backdam in the North West District.

According to Prosecutor Bharat Mangru, on the day in question at about 16:00 hrs, Adams left Powis Landing and was making his way to his mining camp located 500 feet away.

On December 23, Mangru continued, Adams’s body was found about 09:00 hrs lying next to an all-terrain vehicle (ATV). The dead man’s neck bore a wound to its right side, Mangru stated. He was later pronounced dead at the Pakera District Hospital.

Police conducted an investigation and the defendant was subsequently contacted. According to Mangru, Freeman admitted, under caution, to robbing Adams of $19,000 and killing him in the process of the robbery.

Freeman was not required to plead to the indictable charge. He was instead remanded to prison until February 3 when he is to make an appearance at the Matthew’s Ridge Magistrate Court.
