Girl mauled by jaguar still critical

Three-year-old Jasmine Joseph is still in a critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation but relatives say that she has regained consciousness.

Jasmine, a resident of Isseneru, Region Seven was brutally attacked by a jaguar on Friday morning on her way home after taking a bath in the Mazaruni River. The young girl was air dashed to the city after being clawed by the animal.

She was dragged approximately forty feet away from the safety of her aunts and into the bushes where the jaguar mauled her face, head, torso and legs. The animal was shot and killed in an effort to save the girl.

It was second jaguar attack on Jasmine in less than a month.
