One has two options in dealing with a letter from the Public Relations Officer of Guyana Water Inc, Mr Timothy Austin, captioned ‘Residents of No 53 Village do receive treated water‘: either ignore this response from an official who is clearly unfamiliar with the operations at the grassroots level, or correct his assumption.
The villagers of Upper Corentyne are not interested in headlines but the substantive issue – an adequate supply of potable water. Would Mr Austin publish the findings of interviews with the villagers of No 53 Village to ascertain if they are receiving an adequate supply of potable water? Has Mr Austin ever visited No. 53 village?
I am not in the business of scoring points but I stand by my substantive position which is that the people of No 53 Village do not get adequate supplies of potable water.
My game is not to deceive, but just to highlight a real developmental issue in a village populated by real human beings. I call on the news media to interview the villagers of No 53 to ascertain their reality.
