Foreign businesses and not just local ones should pay VAT

Dear Editor,

The Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) keeps pressing local businesses and consumers to pay Value Added Tax (VAT)

Over the last several years, large numbers of Chinese and Brazilian stores and restaurants have been set up countrywide and it would be interesting to know whether all of them collect VAT and pay it over to GRA. The GRA should not omit to visit these business places to ensure that they all pay VAT.

Yours faithfully,
Henry G. Niles
