Why can’t Trans Guyana Airways land at Bartica instead of Baganara?

Dear Editor,

Barticians are happy to hear that Trans Guyana Airways will be introducing its regular flights to the Bartica area by mid February. Miners especially will be happy, but why fly to Baganara. Barticians will have to join a boat from Bartica and journey to Baganara to catch a flight. It will be the same in the other direction: from Ogle to Baganara by plane and then by boat to Bartica.

Some are saying that it’s better to join the boat from Bartica and travel to Parika instead.  The majority of travellers in Bartica would prefer if the aircraft touched down at the Bartica Airstrip. They do not like the idea of coming out of an aircraft and then joining a boat. This will be very disgusting, and considering passengers will be returning with baggage and cargo this will not be too safe, especially for pregnant mothers or women and children.

I would urge the Trans Guyana Airways directors to have a discussion with Barticians before this flight commences. Please don’t tell us the road to the airstrip is bad; it’s always bad. We in Region 7 have all the stone, sand and loam we need; we supply Guyana with road-building materials, yet we have the worst five miles of road, from One Mile to Five Miles Potaro Road.

Yours faithfully,
Winston Miller Snr
