Miami is the transit point for mail destined for Germany

Dear Editor,

The Guyana Post Office Corporation (GPOC) wishes to thank you for allowing our response to a letter that was published in your March 8, 2013, edition under the caption, ‘Why does mail sent to Europe take months to arrive?’

Notwithstanding the challenges that exist due to the limitation of direct flights to Europe, GPOC makes every effort to route its mail through established transit points. As such, Miami is the transit point for mail that is destined for Germany.

The standard practice is that the transit administration is responsible for forwarding such mail to the final destination. It is imperative to note that GPOC has no control over the transit point.

Further, please note that mail destined for Germany is conveyed from Guyana to Miami once per week via an established carrier based on the volume.

GPOC would like to categorically state that freight cost is paid to each airline that conveys the Corporation’s mails.

GPOC remains committed towards working with postal operators worldwide to ensure that mail is conveyed and delivered expeditiously.

Yours faithfully,
Telesha Whyte
