FITUG and East Asian imperialism

Dear Editor,

FITUG (Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Guyana) recently issued in the media a tirade of nonsensical abuse of France and the French intervention in Mali. FITUG obviously has no idea of what the issues were and of the universal welcome the French intervention has had from the Malians, other African nations and the United Nations.

If FITUG were interested in saving Africa from Imperialist plunder, they should turn their attention to and issue statements about the new and more vicious East Asian Imperialism which is far more irresponsible, harsh and worse than anything which emanated from the West.

This present-day East Asian Imperialism is grabbing with massive speed Africa’s gold, oil, iron, forests and other non-renewable resources. Even Africa’s animals are being plundered including their elephants and rhinos which are wantonly slaughtered for their tusks.

The new Imperialists have built some infrastructure and hydropower so that they could more easily and cheaply remove the plunder to the ports for shipment to Asia. Building such infrastructure was primarily for themselves and not for the Africans.

This trend is happening in other parts of the world as well.

I look forward to FITUG’s future statements.

Yours faithfully,
Kassa Maconen Barnet
