The funeral parlour and authorities have to come to a solution

Dear Editor,

Last week in Kaieteur News there was an article with a picture of two coffins containing the remains of persons. The funeral parlour proprietor was reported as saying that since the bodies had not been claimed he was left with no other option but to leave them in the cemetery at the mortuary area.

We are being inundated with garbage all over the city and its environs, a most untidy and unhealthy state. The dead in Le Repentir are not left out as they remain covered with bush making it impossible for relatives, friends, etc, to attend the final rites. Now we are back to this disgusting practice of disposing of unclaimed bodies. There must be a solution between the funeral parlour and the responsible authorities.

Have the unclaimed dead become garbage? When will ‘Rest In Peace’ be really evident for our departed souls in the Le Repentir?

Yours faithfully,
