Stella Ramsaroop should deal with domestic violence in the United States

Dear Editor,

Stella Ramsaroop writes in Stabroek News weekly preaching to the Guyanese public what they should or should not do.  Here is an American woman who visits periodically. Why doesn’t she deal with all the domestic violence that goes on there right in her own city in the US.  Why not help those around her?  She does not represent me or any other woman in Guyana.  Why not help Red Thread which has been on our side for decades when women need help.

She has written negatively of her late mother, her husband and her politician brother-in law Peter Ramsaroop.  She writes negatively of our President, our former presidents and current ministers.  She is a disgrace to our beautiful country.   She writes as though she is one of our women in Guyana when she does not spend time in our country for any lengthy period.

Recently in her column she chastised men in Guyana for how they ‘sweet talk’ women.  This is our culture; both men and women embrace the way we do things.   I have seen many times when both men and women if they don’t like something will say so.

I recommend she start writing for a local newspaper in the United States.

Yours faithfully,
Mala Persaud
