The people of Guyana must live in harmony

Dear Editor,

How can we forget so quickly that when the People’s Progressive Party came to power in 1992 the now President of this land Mr Donald Ramotar kept repeating that democracy has returned to Guyana. Now that he is our President I wonder if he is saying ‘democracy’?

Dr Joey Jagan told the Guyanese people before the 2011 election that he was going to support Mr Ramotar because he is an honest person. And Mr Ramotar promised that he would be a President for all the people and would not support any wrongdoing.

The old phenomenon that had gripped our nation is rearing its ugly head again ‒ that is the race card. Is there no end to this? First it was the former president Mr Bharrat Jagdeo at the funeral service of one of our most distinguished and beloved sons of the soil, and then his statements were supported by none other than our sitting President, further strengthened by the Home Affairs Minister.
I ask the people of our beloved nation how much more of this division must we endure?  Why must we endure all of this talk of racial profiling?

I once again call on the Chambers of Commerce, the Private Sector Commission, small business enterprises the churches, Muslim and Hindu organizations and all denominations to raise their voices, and call on our political leaders to set a good example in order that we can live as our motto said:  One People with One Destiny.

People of Guyana we must live together in harmony or suffer together because of the politicians. This is our land; we must make the choice and not the politicians.

Yours faithfully,
David Noel
