Boodhoo should have resigned in 2011

Dear Editor,

In a more civil society the Chief Election Officer, Mr Boodhoo, would have offered his resignation since 2011.  If I recall correctly, a similar “mistake” was made in the 2006 elections in which the PPP gained one seat at the expense of the AFC.  That situation was never corrected. In each case when these mistakes are made, it is the PPP that benefits, and as a consequence in the first instance thousands of Guyanese were denied their democratic right to be represented by their party of choice in Parliament. This is unfair and is a blatant injustice.

The latest fiasco took place in 2011, and the fact that Mr Boodhoo has now gone on leave pending the renewal of his contract, is a valid indicator of the prevailing culture at Gecom and within the higher corridors of power.

Mr Boodoo is not a slow learner. He should realize that he no longer enjoys the confidence of a significant section of Guyanese electorate, and as a consequence he has outlived his usefulness at Gecom, and further, that he is not indispensable.

It is not too late for Mr Boodoo to redeem himself. He should do the right thing.

Yours faithfully,
