Streets incorrectly named

Dear Editor,

I worked in the Postal Service for almost four decades and have resided in Georgetown for all my life. With this background I pride myself on knowing the streets in Georgetown accurately.

The news report in your Monday June 3 edition, pages 10 and 18, captioned “Gunfire in Werk-en-Rust” brought this knowledge into question.

The street map on page 18 showing the direction the shooters took, lists United Nations Place as running from Hadfield Street (north) to Sussex Street (south). According to my knowledge, United Nations replaced Boyle as the name of the street that runs from Croal Street to Hadfield Street. The stretch from Hadfield to Princes Street is John Street, while going further south to Sussex Street the name changes to Adelaide Street.

Further, Russell Street which replaces Camp and runs from Princes to Sussex Street is also not named.

Editor, I know things change and I may not be privy to some, so please advise if these streets were renamed.

Yours faithfully,
L Dunsford Dickson

Editor’s note
The map came from Google which seems not to have included all of Georgetown’s street names. We regret the errors.
