Dear Editor,
This is a note to Mr. Kempton France, Operations Engineer of the Guyana Power and Light Company, and all the other apologists at said company. You need to find a new excuse, and quick. To any layman, the constant blackouts are not caused by heavy winds and rains Sirs. If it were so, why is it that on the street I live (in Werk-en-Rust) we are plagued by no less than 12 blackouts daily in a 24 hour period yet a stone’s throw away, in Charlestown, they seem to get no blackouts during the night. I do not know what happens to them during the day but at night when we are plunged into darkness they get electricity. This is what I can see with my eyes. Wind or no wind, rain or no rain.
It has not rained for two days now, yet as I write this letter we are on our 3rd blackout for today, Sunday, December 22, 2013, and the periods of electricity between the blackouts get shorter and shorter. In other words, the blackout periods last longer and longer each time.
The situation has become intolerable to me. I wake up in darkness. I have to walk around with a flashlight on my wrist at night because there is no telling when we will be plunged into darkness. Even in our darkest days in the 70’s and 80’s we never had such poor service from GPL. Something seems to be very wrong and you need to tell us the truth. We are not fools. December 25th is two days away. When will this madness end?
