ST.JOHN’S, Antigua, CMC- The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) says it’s confident, Otis Gibson, will stay on as regional head coach though his contract with the team ends in March.
English county club Warwickshire is reported to be holding talks with Gibson to replace Director of cricket, Ashley Giles, who left to become England coach.
WICB Corporate Communications Manager, Imran Khan, says there has been no indication so far from Gibson that he will not remain in the job.
“The West Indies cricket board has not had any indication whatsoever from Otis about him not wanting to continue,” Khan told Jamaica’s TV J Thursday night.
“In fact the opposite is true where he himself has said some months ago that he has every intention of continuing and obviously the decision is one that the board will make in due course.”
Gibson, who signed a three year contract in 2010, was quoted last year as saying he is looking to remain in charge of the regional side beyond February 2013.
However a report on the website, ESPNcricinfo, says Gibson is tired of the politics of Caribbean cricket and wants to leave.
Gibson himself has declined to confirm or deny his interest in the Warwick-shire role ESPNcricinfo has also reported. The Barbados-born fast bowler, who helped English club Durham to championship honours in 2007, is considered among the strongest candidates for the job of Director of Cricket at Warwickshire, the reigning County Championship Division One winners.
Gibson, the former England bowling coach, has also been credited with improving the fitness and discipline of the West Indies squad.
