Joseph bowls GT&T Berbice to innings victory

The Guyana Telephone & Telegraph (GT&T) Berbice cricket team yesterday completed an innings victory over the President’s XI at the Demerara Cricket Club ground in Queenstown in their four-day Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Inter County tournament despite a fighting innings of 96 from Anthony Bramble.

Scores in the match: President’s XI:-182 and 188. Berbice:- 424-8 declared.

Fast bowler Keon Joseph produced a successful spell of fast bowling bagging five wickets on the slow track to ensure his team did not bat again.

The President’s XI needed to score at least 242 runs to make Berbice bat a second time but fell way short of the target as Bramble failed to find adequate support. They were bowled out for 188, resulting in an innings and 54-run loss.

President’s XI captain Eugene La Fleur was dismissed off the final delivery of Saturday’s play sending a return catch to part time bowler Sewnarine Chattergoon for 13 as the President’s XI closed on 135-6.

They resumed yesterday morning with Bramble not out on 78. He added 18 more runs to his score before he fell four runs short of a deserved hundred bowled by Joseph. Bramble struck 18 fours and received useful support from Collis Butts, who finished with 25 not out. Joseph picked up 5 for 65 from 17 overs while Gudakesh Motie-Kanhai took 2 for 35.

GT&T Berbice’s next assignment will begin tomorrow at Wales Community Development Centre where they will face Essequibo who went down to Demerara by eight wicket while the President’s XI will play Demerara at the Everest Cricket Club ground simultaneously.
