Baugh back in J/ca squad

KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC- Wicketkeeper Carlton Baugh has been included in a 13-man Jamaica squad announced for their opening game against Barbados next month in the Regional Super50 tournament.

Baugh was left out of Jamaica’s set-up now competing in the Caribbean Twenty20 tournament after failing to turn out for his team Melbourne CC in the local 20-overs club competition.

“The (JCA) board cleared him based on checks revealing injury prevented him from playing in the two-day tournament for Melbourne CC,” JCA chairman of selectors Courtney Daley told the Jamaica Observer.

“He’s eligible now so he was picked for the Super50 and four-day tournaments”.

The squad consists of several players in the CT20 in St Lucia, namely captain Tamar Lambert, deputy David Bernard, batsmen Nkrumah Bonner, Danza Hyatt and Andre McCarthy, spinners Nikita Miller and Odean Brown and left-arm seamers Krishmar Santokie and Sheldon Cotterell.

Sagicor High Performance Centre (HPC) batsman Jermaine Blackwood, left-handed opener Simon Jackson and seasoned pacer Andrew Richardson are also chosen.

Jamaica will be without opener Chris Gayle and all-rounder Andre Russell who are part of the West Indies squad to tour Australia in February.

Also not considered is the West Indies middle-order batsman Marlon Samuels still nursing an eye injury suffered in the Australian Big Bash League.

The defending champions face Barbados at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown on February 7.
