Tagenarine Chanderpaul named in Guyana four-day team

Despite scoring the most runs and having the highest average in the recent Guyana Cricket Board One-Day Inter County tournament, 17 year old Tagenarine Chanderpaul, son of  West Indies middle order batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul has been omitted from the Guyana One-day team to contest the upcoming Super50 limited overs tournament.

He has, however, been named in the Regional Four Day squad.

Tagenarine Chanderpaul played for the President’s XI in the One-Day Inter County tournament and scored the competition’s only century 103 not out against Essequibo on the way to scoring 170 runs at an average of 170.

The West Indies Cricket Board’s Regional First Class tournament and the Super50 competitions will be run simultaneously beginning on February 7th.
The Super50 squad is similar to the squad which participated in the Caribbean T20, with Rajendra Chandrika, Assad Fudadin, Paul Wintz and Essequibo’s left hand spinner Ricardo Adams added to the team. Adams, who has played for the Guyana U-19 team, was consistent with both bat and ball throughout the Senior Inter County tournaments.

Royston Crandon has been excluded from the squad after playing in the Caribbean T20.
Tagenarine Chanderpaul has been rewarded for his patience and solid technique with a place in the squad for the four-day tournament mainly because of the absence of Narsingh Deonarine who will be on duty with the West Indies team.

West Indies middle order batsman Fudadin, pacer Keon Joseph, leg spinner Amir Khan and opener Chandrika are also included.

Leon Johnson has been named vice captain while all rounders Christopher Barnwell, Steven Jacobs and Paul Wintz are in the squad.

Veerasammy Permaul has been named captain of both teams while wicket-keeper/batsman Derwin Christian has retained his position in both squads.

Fast bowler Ronsford Beaton will spearhead the fast bowling attack which also includes Berbice’s Keon Joseph and Wintz with the all round skills of Barnwell to supplement the trio. The squad also features the experience of Permaul and Devendra Bishoo in the spin bowling department, while leg spinner Khan and Steven Jacobs add to Guyana’s spin options.

The Guyana four day squad reads: Rajendra Chandrika, Tagenarine Chanderpaul, Leon Johnson,(Vice-captain), Assad Fudadin, Christopher Barnwell, Steven Jacobs, Derwin Christian, Veerasammy Permaul (Captain), Devendra Bishoo, Ronsford Beaton, Paul Wintz, Keon Joseph and Amir Khan.
