‘Stable’ GFA hopes to develop women’s, club structure in 2013

Vice president of the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) Lavern Fraser-Thomas says that the sub-association is financially stable and hoping to pursue several projects this year including developing the club structure and strengthening the women’s programme.

In an invited comment yesterday, Fraser-Thomas told Stabroek Sport that the GFA recently submitted audited financial statements to the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) and that the sub-association was currently financially stable.

According to Fraser-Thomas, who is the vice president of administration, GFA submitted its audited financial statements for the past two years which were happily accepted by acting GFF president Franklin Wilson. This was at a meeting between the GFF and the GFA to discuss the way forward for the development of football in Guyana according to Fraser-Thomas.

“GFF president expressed delight and congratulated the GFA and its treasurer Dexter Schultz on this presentation noting that this has not been done by any other sub-associations including previous executives of GFA, for a very long time,” Fraser-Thomas stated.

Fraser-Thomas said that the financial reports included the breakdown for the projects and tournament of the GFA including the GFA Banks Beer Knockout tournament which was one of the biggest events the GFA hosted over the past two years.

Speaking specifically about the current financial position of the GFA, Fraser-Thomas said: “I would say that we are stable and we have been, during the last two years, able to finance the tournaments that we have held on our own and some with the help of sponsorships.”

According to Fraser-Thomas, that disposition will enable the GFA to be able to stage the regular tournaments that they have scheduled for the year as well as embark on a few developmental initiatives. Some of the initiative that the GFA are hoping to pursue include developing and sustaining a vibrant programme for female players and formulating a systematic structure for the affiliate clubs.
