No sponsorship deal yet between Digicel, WICB

(Barbados Nation) Five months after the expiration of the last contract between the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) and its principal sponsor Digicel, the two parties are yet to agree terms on a new deal.

In light of the two entities failing to extend their partnership despite starting negotiations since 2011, the ongoing series between West Indies and Zimbabwe remains unsponsored.

When contacted yesterday, Digicel group director of marketing operations Kieran Foley revealed to WEEKENDSPORT the Irish telecommunications company was keen to continue its involvement in Caribbean cricket and the ball was in the WICB’s court.

“We don’t have a contract with the WICB as it currently stands. We have been in discussions with them since 2011. We met with [outgoing chief executive] Ernest Hilaire in September 2012. We came to quite a substantial agreement in theory,” Foley said.
