Barnwell ready for Zimbabwe clash

ST. JOHN’S, Antigua,  CMC- The top  scorer in the recent Caribbean T20 tournament, Chris Barnwell, says he is anxious to show case his skills for West Indies against Zimbabwe in the two match T20 series this weekend.

Barnwell, who has been recalled for the matches today and tomorrow at the Vivian Richards cricket ground in Antigua, says he is not daunted by his failure to produce in recent matches of the regional ODI and four-day competitions.

The Guyanese emerged from the Caribbean T20 tournament as the leading all rounder  with 245 runs and six wickets.

“I just had a bad couple of games in the regional 50 overs and four day,” Barnwell said.

“But I am feeling pretty confident to go out there to perform and do well for the West Indies team and get the opportunity to go out there and showcase my talent”.

Barnwell, who has represented the West Indies against Pakistan, India and England, was this week called up on a 13 man squad for the Zimbabwe games.

Considered a rising star in cricket, Barnwell, upstaged a century from Chris Gayle to score 88 runs and helped Guyana to eliminate Jamaica from the recent Caribbean T20.

“I have always had it in me over the past couple years I would have played Caribbean T20 I would have brought Guyana out of some difficult situations,” said Barnwell.

“So I am pretty confident once I go out there and perform for West Indies and play a match winning innings. I would just go and bat according to the situation”.

His performance in the Caribbean T20 has landed him a US 50,000 dollar contract to play for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the 2013 Indian Premier League (IPL) .

“I think it’s a wonderful opportunity to go out there and showcase my talent on the big stage in a very good team with some big players and I am looking forward to learning a lot from them ,” said Barnwell a right handed batsman who bowls right arm medium pace.

“They are all world class players and I would try to pick their brain as much as I can on that tour”.
