St George’s, Richard Ishmael devastate opponents in football

St. George’s Secondary compliments of a collective offensive output crushed Queen’s College 5-0 in the opening of the round of sixteen football fixtures which commenced at the Ministry of Education Ground, Carifesta Avenue yesterday.

Typified by use of the long ball in the early exchanges of the first half, St. George’s would take the lead through their captain Sean Taylor as he broke the early deadlock in the sixteenth minute.

Disjointed prior to the early concession by the Camp Road outfit, St. George’s would consolidate their position in the thirty- third minute with the talismanic Royston Dublin adding his name to the scorer’s sheet.

Unable to formulate a plan of attack, Queen’s College were reduced to infrequent and unorthodox modes of offense, as their inspirational leader Stephen Rutherford was shackled and creatively stymied by the defensive duo of Taylor and Okeeri Codrington as half time loomed.

Continuing in the same fashion on resumption, further misery would befall the Camp Road team as an Adolf George screamer into the top corner during the fiftieth  minute would bring the small crowd to its feet.

Clearly in a different class and dominating proceedings in its entirety, further goals by Jummer Small and Neil Cameron in the seventieth and eighty- seventh minutes respectively would cap off a clinical display by the St. George’s outfit.

In the opening match up of the scheduled programme, heavyweights Richard Ishmael Secondary led by their dynamic trio of Ray Stanton, Roneldo Dover and Kristoff Watts dismantled Christchurch Secondary 5-1 to book their spot in the quarterfinal rounds.

Opening their account in the fifteenth minute through a well-taken Stanton finish, the Woolford Avenue unit would quickly add to their lead in the form of Trevon Tucker, as the resulting conversion compliments of a defensive indiscretion would be expertly dispatched in the twenty-second minute.

Desperate to find a way back into proceedings, Christchurch Secondary were given a timely lifeline as a penalty was awarded their way for an infraction in the resulting area in the thirty-first minute. Stepping up to take the ensuing spot kick was Travis Fitzpatrick who skilfully converted the resultant dead ball situation with a ferocious strike, leaving the Ishmael custodian with simply no chance as lemon time neared.

Confident through their recent scoring success and trying to restore parity to the score line upon resumption of the second half, Christchurch would be dealt a hammer blow as a well-taken indirect free kick by Richard Ishmael’s captain Dover in the thirty-sixth minute would basically take the wind out of their sales, scuttling any attempts of an early tournament upset in the knockout stages.

Back in control and monopolizing possession, Richard Ishmael would further reinforce their already ample lead as quick fire strikes by Shaka Browne and Watts in the fifty-third and fifty-seventh minutes in that order effectively put the game to bed.
