Colonel Bruce Lovell open to contesting GFF Presidency

Colonel Bruce Lovell of the Guyana Defence Force says he is interested in competing for the presidency of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) when the federation stages its annual general meeting and election of office bearers on April 15.

Lovell told Stabroek Sport earlier this week by telephone that the possibility exists that he will contest the post of president of the GFF but said that will only happen under one condition.

“Once the atmosphere is not acrimonious in nature then I will consider running, but if there is any acrimony I will not be considering contesting the presidency,” he said.

Lovell said he has been approached by individuals from two different associations to contest the presidency of the federation.

The army colonel, along with A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) Member of Parliament and Attorney-at-Law Joseph Harmon, People’s Progressive Party (PPP) Member of Parliament Odinga Lumumba, General Secretary of the Georgetown Football Association Christopher Matthias and Acting GFF President Franklin Wilson were the names mentioned in the race for the GFF Presidency.

So far Harmon is the only candidate to confirm his intention to contest the presidency. Lumumba has said he will not contest the presidency.
