Previous AAG executive failed to deliver audited report to new leadership

- Hutson

The Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) says the failure of the previous executive of the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) to produce audited financial statements to the new executive has hampered its ability to determine its financial status.

In an interview with Stabroek Sport, AAG President Aubrey Hutson stated  that he was working along with the previous AAG executive, which was headed by Colin Boyce, to resolve this issue. He said that certain documents that were not handed over to the new AAG executive, must be submitted before the AAG can make any declarations about finances.

“We are hoping in this week to have that sorted out. To date, we do not know what that figure is (the financial status of the AAG),” he said.

When quizzed about what the funds from the Boyce/Jefford Games, also known as the President/Jefford Classic, was used for Hutson said, “I am not aware as to where funds from those games went.”

According to the AAG 2013 competitions calendar, the private athletic meet is set for two venues, the Police Sports Club ground at Eve Leary and the Mackenzie Sports Club ground in Linden on August 17 and 18.

Huston pointed out that the Boyce/Jefford Games has not yet been approved by the AAG as no official request was made by the organisers of the meet.

“The Classic is on the calendar of activities for August but presently not approved by the council as yet. Officially no letter was sent requesting approval for the Boyce/Jefford Games,” he said. Hutson said he could not give a definitive answer as to whether the meet  will be granted the set dates since the AAG has not engaged with any organisers of private meets on specific dates.

He said the same will apply for other private meets which include the Ainlim 10km and the Courts 10km road races.
