St. George’s Secondary School yesterday reached the semi-finals of the Milo U20 Schools football tournament when they defeated Charlestown Secondary 3-2 on penalty kicks.
The match played at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue, saw the two teams locked on three goals each following the end of regulation and extra time.
Charlestown opened the scoring in the 46th minute through a Shane Morris strike and consolidated their position four minutes later through an Anthony Bartholomew conversion.
Sensing their championship aspirations diminishing, St. George’s through, full back Okeer Codrington scored in the 57th minute and leveled the match with a 70th minute strike from Ozeal Small.
Charlestown regained the lead in the 83 rd minute with Morris completing his brace. Unwilling to go down, St. George’s would once again pull level as Quancy Laurence netted 87th minute to send the game into extra time and the resulting spot kicks.
In the opening game of the day, Carmel Secondary, through the tournament’s top scorer Marlon Nedd defeated Chase Academy 4-3.
Nedd netted a helmet trick scoring in the 43rd, 52nd, 59th and 76th minutes. On target in a losing cause was Stephen Sankar in the 22d and 68th minutes and Isaiah Reddy in the 60th minute.
