Shillingford makes biggest climb among West Indies players

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates,  CMC- Off spinner Shane Shillingford has made the biggest climb among West Indies cricketers in the latest ICC player rankings, released yesterday.

Shillingford, riding on a nine wicket haul against Zimbabwe in last week’s first test, has soared 19 places to 41st in the bowler’s rankings

The Dominican off spinner, who was recalled to the West Indies for the Zimbabwe tests, is expected to be a threat to their batsmen again when he plays to home town support in the second and final test starting in Roseau today.

West Indies pacer Kemar Roach has moved up a notch to 11th in a bowlers table headed by South Africa’s Dale Steyn with his teammate Vernon Philander in second place and Pakistan’s Saeed Ajmal in third.

Meantime West Indies middle order batsman Marlon Samuels and opener Chris Gayle have moved in different directions in the ICC rankings for batsmen.

Samuels has moved one ratings point higher to number 17, while Gayle dropped a notch to 26.
Gayle has also dropped three places to 67 in the bowler’s rankings while Samuels has climbed two ratings points to 81.
Other West Indian batsmen moving up the table are Captain Darren Sammy climbing a place to 55, Denesh Ramdin moving up five places to 63 while Kieran Powell fell 11 places to 60.

The batting table is still headed by South Africa’s Hashim Amla with his teammate AB de Villiers sitting in second place and West Indies’ Shivnarine Chanderpaul in third position.
