Jamaica dominate Leewards with bat and ball

KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – Defending champions Jamaica romped to a comfortable 57 run victory over Leeward Islands in their fifth round match of the Regional Super50 Championship at Sabina Park here yesterday.

Jamaica bowled out the Leewards for 196 runs after three powerful half centuries from Danza Hyatt, skipper Tamar Lambert and Andre McCarthy lifted them to 253 for four wickets.

Hyatt missed his century by a single run but played a brilliant innings to  lead the Jamaica run flow after the visitors won the toss and decided to field.

Jamaica further asserted themselves through Captain Lambert who was undefeated on 77 and McCarthy who was run out for 59.
Lambert, who faced 68 balls struck 7 boundaries and hit two sixes.
McCarthy hit four fours and two sixes in his 74 ball innings.

Leeward Island bowlers made no serious inroads into the Jamaica’s batting as  Gavin Tonge and Kelbert Walters picked up a wicket each.
The Jamaican bowlers, on the other hand, tore through the Leeward Islands batting which collapsed around a lion hearted half century from Sylvester Joseph who provided some hope.

Andrew Richardson grabbed three for 23 and Nikita Miller three for 30 as the Leewards slumped to 95 for four and found difficulty in building partnerships.
Odeon Brown and Yannick Elliot tightened the squeeze on the batsmen by picking up two for 38 and two for 49 respectively and providing no respite to the Leeward Islands.

Sylvester Joseph who came in at number three batted stubbornly throughout most of the innings in a valiant effort to keep alive Leeward’s chances of reaching the 255 run target.

Joseph, who top scored with 83, hitting four fours and six sixes in an innings lasting 98 balls, lost his stump after he was beaten by a delivery from Miller.
Joseph received no meaningful support from any of the other batsmen and with his departure the last three wickets fell for 15 runs.
Tonito Willet was caught for 20 to be the second highest scorer in a poor batting display by the Leeward Islands.
The champions remain unbeaten having secured their fourth straight win in the Super50 tournament.
