CCC suffer heavy defeat despite Walton efforts

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad,  CMC – Chadwick Walton produced a belter but seamer Rayad Emrit’s magical spell undermined Combined Campuses and Colleges and help set up an easy 10-wicket win for Trinidad and Tobago here yesterday.

The right-armer picked up all six wickets to fall for 35 runs as CCC, resuming the third day of their fifth round Regional Four-Day match on 174 for four, shockingly collapsed to 188 all out at Queen’s Park Oval.

Walton then smashed an audacious 93 but fast bowler Marlon Richards (3-66), along with spinners Jason Mohammed (2-7) and Imran Khan (2-19) reduced the CCC to 228 all out in their second innings.

Set 11 to win, T&T easily reached their target from two overs.

Emrit, generating prodigious movement, removed the veteran Floyd Reifer for two just eight minutes into the day to start the rut and knocked over Chadwick Walton without scoring, as CCC stumbled to 177 for six.

Raymon Reifer, unbeaten on 45 overnight, added only three before he too became a victim of Emrit, caught at the wicket by Stephen Katwaroo.

Following on 218 runs behind, CCC crashed to 53 for five thanks to an incisive burst from pacer Marlon Richards who finished with three for 66

However, Walton came to his side’s rescue with a superb knock, putting on 98 for the sixth wicket with Raymon Reifer who struck 48.

Walton batted bravely, striking nine fours and three sixes in an innings lasting 205 minutes and 145 balls while Reifer faced 107 balls in 197 minutes at the crease and counted eight boundaries.

When Reifer played across a full length delivery from Emrit and was lbw, Walton found an ally in Kevin McClean who scored 30, to put on a further 72 runs for the seventh wicket.

Once Walton was brilliantly caught by Kieron Pollard running around from first slip to leg slip off Jason Mohammed, CCC lost their last four wickets for five runs
