Beaton, Permaul bowl Guyana to first innings points

Ronsford Beaton and Verasammy Premaul grabbed four wickets each as Guyana dismissed the Combined Campuses and Colleges (CCC)side for 164 in their first innings on the second day of the Regional Four-Day tournament yesterday at the Providence National Stadium.

Resuming on their overnight score of 225-7 Guyana were eventually dismissed for 231 with Nekoli Parris picking up all three of the wickets to fall to end with 4-9.
When CCC commenced their reply they reached 40 with loss before losing  three quick wickets and lunched at 58-3.

Guyana skipper Permaul picked up the wickets of Shacoya Thomas (7) and Anthony Alleyne for 37 while Parris (8) was caught at first slip by Leon Johnson off the bowling of Steven Jacobs.

A heavy shower during the luncheon interval threatened a full day’s play but eventually play resumed at 1:48.

Upon resumption, CCC’s captain Kyle Corbin had a scare as he was dropped by Steven Jacobs at second slip off the bowling of Beaton but his luck ran out as he held out to Narsingh Deonarine  at long on off the bowling of Permaul for 11.

Coach and player Floyd Reifer was bowled for eight by Davendra Bishoo in his third over while Raymon Reifer played well for his 19 but eventually fell victim to hostile fast bowling of Beaton edged a delivery to wicketkeeper Anthony Bramble.

Akeem Dewar (9) had his stumps uprooted by Beaton in his ninth over, while Chadwick Walton played aggressively for his 32 before edging a beauty to the ‘keeper giving Beaton his third wicket.

Beaton picked up his fourth wicket when he had Ryan Austin caught at second slip by Jacobs.

Beaton ended with figures of 4-52 off 15 overs.

Kesrick Williams (4) was the last wicket to fall for CCC as he was bowled by Permaul.

The skipper ended with figures of 4-39 off 20.1 overs.

Guyana began their second innings losing Rajendra Chandrika without scoring off the bowling of Parris.

But Johnson and Asad Fudadin played positively to take their team to 44-1 at stumps.

Guyana coach Esuan Crandon said:”I am pleased with the boys and I was impressed with their bowling and also the second innings start we have.

“We will be looking to bat for two and a half innings and try to give ourselves a platform to try and secure a win,” he added.
