Briso Promotions donate boxing gear to GABA

The Guyana Boxing Association (GBA)on Saturday received a timely shot in the arm when CEO of Briso Promotions, Seon Bristol presented a quantity of boxing gloves to the association which will be used in the upcoming national novice’s championships.

Bristol presented the equipment to GBA’s Tournament Director, Terrence Poole in the presence of members of his promotional company and GBA’s President Steve Ninvalle at his Courida Park residence.

An excess of 60 amateur boxers from 10 gyms across the country are billed to compete at the GBA’s national novices championships scheduled from April 12 to 14.

The three-day open air event which will be the first national competition for 2013 will be staged on the tarmac of the National Gymnasium.

GBA’s president, Ninvalle told Stabroek Sport that the pugilists including females will be in the ring vying for trophies and medals.

“Boxing fans can expect to see some female fights that would add some spice to the card” said Ninvalle on Wednesday.

“There are a number of female bouts that are carded for the three-day affair and we expect to have over 60 boxers there between the ages of 17 and 34”.

Ninvalle as well as Poole thanked Bristol for the equipment and mentioned that they will be used for the upcoming championships.

Boxers will come from gyms such as Forgotten Youth Foundation (FYF), Guyana Defence Force (GDF), Essequibo Boxing Gym, Pocket Rocket, Rose Hall Jammers, Republican, Police, Carryl, Young Achievers and Timehri Boxing Gym.

Sponsors for the event are yet to be garnered but Ninvalle intimated that he is optimistic of receiving support for the competition.
