Scotiabank/Pepsi Schools football tourney launched in N/A

The Scotiabank/Pepsi School Football tournament was officially launched at the All Saints ground, New Amsterdam last Saturday.

Heathcliff Peters, Guyana Teachers Union (GTU) Sports Officer, Berbice Branch, in brief remarks welcomed all present and thanked those present at the opening ceremony for supporting the Guyana Sports Development Foundation (GSDF) in conjunction with Scotia Bank and Demerara Distiller Limited (DDL) under their Pepsi brand.

He urged the participants of the tournament to be good role models and ambassadors for their schools and thanked sponsors DDL and Scotia Bank for continuing to sponsor the academy.

The opening ceremony was followed by the first game between New Amsterdam Multilateral School (NAMS) and Berbice Educational Institute (BEI) which saw NAMS defeating BEI two goals to nil.
Chad Henry and Tavil Simpson were the goal scorers in the sixth and  fifty-fourth minutes.

The Scotiabank/Pepsi football programme has been held among schools in Georgetown over the last two years but was expanded to New Amsterdam and Linden this year.

The competition continues this weekend in Georgetown and Linden with a number of games.
At the end of the tournaments in July, an All-Star teams will be selected to go into training year round.
