AAG’s Junior/youth c/ships postponed

The Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) has postponed its Youth/Junior Championships scheduled for this weekend at the Police Sport Club ground, Eve Leary.

Competitions Director of the AAG Mark Scott in a brief interview with Stabroek Sport said the championships will be held April 20 and 21 at the same venue.

Scott said the postponement was beyond the AAG’s control as the venue was already booked for an event.

The postponement gives the youth and junior athletes some more time to prepare for their respective events after competing last weekend at Police Progressive Youth Club annual relay festival.

Meanwhile, the Athletics Association of Guyana received sponsorship from Wartsila on Monday afternoon for the annual Youth/Junior Championship.

Contracts Manager at Wartsila, Arron Fraser, in handing over the cheque at the company’s office to Gavin Hope, Vice President of the AAG, said he was elated to contribute to sports generally and in this instance athletics.  “For me it’s just that we are happy to contribute to sports on a whole and in this instance, athletics,” he said. Hope, in reply, said he was aware of Fraser’s passion for athletics and was pleased with Wartsila’s contribution towards the Youth/Junior championships.

The championships will feature 2013 CARIFTA Games athletes Cassey George, Tirana Mitchell, Jason Yaw, Avon Samuels Alita Moore and Jevina Straker who returned only five days ago from the Bahamas, host country of the Games.
