No luck for Sarwan, Jordan follows up big haul with ‘duck’

LONDON,  CMC – Ramnaresh Sarwan’s stint as Leicestershire captain got off to a rocky start as the visitors were forced to follow on to Hampshire on the second day of their opening match of the new English County season here yesterday.

Replying to Hampshire’s first innings of 454 for seven declared, Leicestershire were dismissed for 143 and asked to follow on, were none without loss from the two overs available at the Rose Bowl.

Sarwan, who struggled for form in the recent West Indies first class season, top scored with 25 as left-arm seamers James Tomlinson (4-23) and Chris Wood (3-30), ran through the innings.
He put on 33 for the fifth wicket with Matthew Boyce (21) before he was bowled by Zimbabwe seamer Sean Ervine.

Earlier, James Vince converted his overnight 77 into 148 as Hampshire declared 454 for seven, after starting the day on 286 for four.

At Headingley, Barbados all-rounder Chris Jordan got a one-ball ‘duck’ but it did not stop Sussex from piling up 356 all out against Yorkshire, after resuming from their overnight 104 for three.

Ben Browne (93) and Ed Joyce (92) both missed out on centuries.

Yorkshire, behind by 260 runs, finished the day on 27 for one.

On Wednesday, seamer Jordan snatched six for 48 to bundle out Yorkshire for a paltry 96.
