Linden Secondary Schools U-19 b/ball c/ships begin today

The opening ceremony of the ninth annual Linden Secondary Schools Under-19 basketball championships takes place this afternoon at the Mackenzie Sports Club hardcourt.

Six schools, including defending champions Linden Technical Institute, Christianburg Wismar Secondary ‘Multi’, Mackenzie High, Linden Foundation Secondary, New Silvercity Secondary and Wisburg Secondary, will participate in the Linden Amateur Basketball Association (LABA) organized competition.

Joe Chapman, LABA secretary, said that owing to unforeseen circumstances, uniforms for the schools had to be sought locally instead of overseas as happened previously which caused the tournament to be delayed.

Two Brothers Gas Station and Slingerz Family will sponsor the uniforms.

This afternoon’s opening game will start at 4.00pm after the march past at 3.00pm.

Trophies, replicas and medals are at stake in this year’s tournament.
