Leon Seaton Jr., bags three bronze medals at B/dos swim meet

Guyana’s Leon Seaton Jr. swam to a bronze medal in Barbados on Sunday when the 22nd Aquatic Centre International swim concluded at the Garfield Sobers Sports Complex in St. Michael.

The eight-year-old Silver Sharks Aquatic Swim Club swimmer won the boys eight years and under 50m butterfly event in 44.33 seconds. The athlete had pocketed two bronze medals at the championship which started on Friday.

Joseph Seguina achieved a new personal best performance of 29.22 seconds in the 15 years and over 50m butterfly event while 13-year-old Joseph DeNobrega, registered 34.30 seconds in the 50m butterfly event, a time which was .19 seconds slower then his entry time.

The 50m freestyle event also saw DeNobrega, Seaton Jr., and Seguina swimming to personal best times in their respective age categories. DeNobrega clocked 30.23 seconds in the boys’ 13-14 age group and took a few spit seconds off his seed time of 30.94s.

Seaton Jr. shaved one second off his time after recording in 36.39 seconds while Seguina registered 27.29 seconds in his age group.

Onika George and Accalia Khan clocked 30.34 seconds and 33.2 seconds respectively in the girls’ 13-14 50m freestyle event. Khan’s mother, Sonita Gangaram told Stabroek Sport that her daughter was recovering from a back injury.

The local team collectively won four medals. The swimmers were accompanied by Cuban coach assigned to the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, Isabel Couso Fals, Club Coach Sean Baksh, Mia DeNobrega and Leon Seaton senior.
